Understanding TRICARE Coverage

TRICARE is a health insurance provider for active duty servicepeople, retirees, and their family members. It provides comprehensive coverage, including counseling services, dialectical behavior therapy, and other mental health support.

TRICARE enrollees may be eligible for health care services from various providers, including military hospitals and clinics, the company’s network of civilian providers, and TRICARE-authorized out-of-network services.

TRICARE covers active-duty service members, National Guard and Reserve members, their spouses, and family members. It also covers foreign force members and their families. Choose from several plans depending on your age, location, and service category.

Depending on your TRICARE policy, there may be restrictions on where you can receive treatment and the type of care available. For example, TRICARE Prime members can receive care only from military clinics or in-network providers. In contrast, TRICARE Select allows policyholders to receive care from any authorized provider without a referral, but some care services may require pre-authorization.

Our Mental Health Services Covered by TRICARE Health Insurance

If you’re looking for a TRICARE rehab for mental health treatment, Camelback Recovery could be an ideal solution. We offer a variety of programs to cater to military members and their loved ones, including:

  • Inpatient mental health treatment programs: Inpatient treatment can help individuals who are experiencing a severe or sudden-onset psychiatric episode. Our residential treatment services provide a safe environment where people can receive treatment for substance abuse, mood disorders, PTSD, and other related issues. By offering round-the-clock support and a calm, safe, and structured environment, we help the patient focus on recovery.
  • Outpatient mental health services: Many veterans are unable to travel to attend a long-term inpatient program. They may have family responsibilities or must continue working while receiving treatment. Our intensive outpatient programs (IOP) and partial hospitalization programs (PHP) balance intensive support and the flexibility of outpatient care.

Our care team puts together personalized plans for each individual. We don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach to treatment. Where possible, we’ll try to arrange treatments covered by your TRICARE policy. If that’s not possible, we’ll work with you to offer something that fits your budget or help you find financial support so you can access the care you need to ensure your physical and mental well-being.

Specialized Therapies

There are many approaches to therapy, and at Camelback Recovery, we combine them as part of a tailor-made treatment program to promote short-term recovery and help our clients have the best chance of remaining healthy once they return to their day-to-day lives.

Some of the treatments we offer include the following.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR was developed in 1987 as a way to help treat PTSD, and the treatment is still used by many veterans today for this reason. Therapists also use EMDR to treat civilians with traumatic memories. Compared to other forms of therapy, EMDR can be completed quickly, making it a good fit for intensive outpatient care. Clients typically engage in one or two therapy sessions a week, for a total of 6 to 12 sessions, depending on the difficulty of the trauma they’re dealing with and the results of each session.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Former military members struggling with addiction may find our DBT sessions beneficial. This treatment helps patients learn how to handle difficult emotions without turning to drugs or alcohol. DBT sessions involve a mixture of individual and group sessions delivered as part of a partial hospitalization program or an intensive outpatient plan. Patients learn skills such as mindfulness, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness and distress tolerance.

Person-Centered Therapy

Used in a variety of our recovery programs, person-centered therapy helps facilitate personal growth and empowers individuals to make better decisions and take control of their lives. In person-centered therapy, the therapist treats the client as an equal and listens while you talk yourself through the problem. By focusing on the person rather than the problem at hand, this treatment approach helps patients feel at ease and gives them the confidence they need to solve their issues. Our attentive, supportive and encouraging therapists can employ this approach to address many different issues, from stress and anxiety to deep-rooted traumas.

Narrative Therapy

As the name might suggest, narrative therapy is an innovative treatment method that uses storytelling to help people address the challenges they’re facing. Your therapist will help you understand the “dominant story” and identify alternative stories that paint a better picture for you. By finding other ways of looking at situations that can help enhance your life, this treatment helps people heal after trauma and become more resilient in their approach to life.

The above are just a few of the therapies we use to help promote mental well-being. We can work with TRICARE insurance to obtain pre-authorization for some treatments, clarify how many sessions you can receive and determine whether you’re eligible for inpatient care. Some of the sessions our counselors and therapists run are group or family sessions. These can help family members understand the challenges their loved ones are facing so they can better support them once they return to the family home. We appreciate that not all families are in a position to attend a treatment center for regular outpatient appointments of this type. Still, the option is there as part of our long-term and intensive outpatient programs, and it’s something our psychiatrists and counselors will discuss with you when building your treatment plan.

Start Your Mental Health Recovery Journey Today

If you decide to enroll in a treatment program with Camelback Recovery, you can contact our admissions team to verify your TRICARE coverage and start the process. We’ll contact your insurance provider to determine your coverage level and, where possible, get pre-authorization for your care.

Once we’ve confirmed your insurance, we’ll contact you to let you know your out-of-pocket expenses. If any part of your treatment isn’t covered, we’ll explain this to you and advise you of any payment plans or financial aid you may be eligible for.

Should you decide to enter a treatment program with us, you’ll be asked to attend an enrollment appointment. At this appointment, you’ll meet with counselors and therapists who will assess your well-being. Our care team will use the information learned at this meeting to determine your short—and long-term needs and develop a treatment plan.

Depending on your symptoms, you may be invited to attend a series of regular outpatient appointments or asked to consider one of our more intensive partial hospitalization or inpatient programs. We’ll always try to consider your work commitments, family circumstances, and preferences when creating a care plan.

If you choose inpatient care, your treatment won’t end when you’re discharged. We offer follow-up appointments to help address any ongoing challenges. Our therapists’ goal is to give people the skills they need to be resilient in the face of any issues they encounter in their daily lives.
